Freedom of Information Act Request
The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), 5 ILCS 140/1 et seq., is a State statute providing for public access to government records and information. The Act allows for the inspection of records maintained by the Village of La Grange Park and other public bodies. The Act also provides for exemptions of certain secure information.
To ensure thorough and efficient processing, the Village encourages requestors to submit their requests on the Village’s Freedom of Information Act Request Form (PDF). However, the Village will review all written requests in any form. The Village will respond to each written request to inspect, copy, or certify public records in a manner consistent with the Illinois Freedom of Information Act or FOIA.

All requests for Village documents will be directed to the FOIA Officer. The Village will respond to all Freedom of Information requests within five working days of its receipt. If additional time is needed, requestors will be notified of the Village’s intent to respond within an additional five working days as permitted under the Act.
If any of the materials requested are exempt under the Act, requestors will be notified in writing of the specific exemption which applies to the documents and requestors will be provided with all non-exempt materials. Requestors may seek review of any denial, or partial denial, of a request by judicial review pursuant to Section 11 of the Act, or by submitting a request for review to the Public Access Counselor in the Office of the Attorney General at the address set forth below. Any request for review to the Public Access Counselor must be in writing, with signature from the requestor, and must include a copy of the request and the Village’s response, and must be filed not later than sixty days after the date of the denial.
