- 31st Street Corridor Transportation Plan
In early 2025, the Village of La Grange Park was awarded $180,000 in federal funding through the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Statewide Planning and Research (SPR) Grant Program to support the development of a comprehensive transportation and streetscape plan for the 31st Street corridor.
The planning area includes 31st Street from La Grange Road to Maple Avenue and Barnsdale Road from 31st Street to just north of 26th Street. The plan will evaluate existing transportation conditions, identify safety and operational improvements, and provide implementation strategies aligned with regional planning goals. It will also incorporate streetscape improvement concepts to enhance the corridor’s visual character, walkability, and identity—consistent with the Village’s Branding and Identity Plan.
The 31st Street Corridor Transportation Plan aims to:

The Village has retained Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. as the lead consultant based on their qualifications, technical expertise, and familiarity with the community. Kimley-Horn will collaborate with Span, the design firm that assisted in the creation of the Village’s Branding and Identity Plan, to ensure that corridor improvements align with the Village’s broader identity and placemaking goals. The Village and Kimley-Horn had an internal project kickoff meeting on August 14, 2025.
Community input will be a key component of the 31st Street Corridor Transportation Plan. Over the course of the project, the Village and its consultant team will develop a range of strategies to engage residents, businesses, and stakeholders and gather meaningful feedback. An internal project kickoff meeting was held in August 2025 to align the Village and consultant team on project goals, scope, and next steps.
The first public open house regarding the plan was held on October 15, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Fire Station 2, 1010 E. 31st Street. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to learn more about the project, ask questions, and share their ideas. If you couldn’t attend, there’s still time to contribute - visit the interactive project map to provide input on the project area. Your feedback will help shape the future of the 31st Street corridor.
