[ARCHIVED] Nicor Gas Project Updates

Nicor Gas

Investing in Illinois, a Nicor Gas system improvement initiative is a multi-year initiative to modernize aging natural gas infrastructure and enhance the safety and reliability of the natural gas distribution system. The improvements being made to infrastructure through Investing in Illinois are designed to allow Nicor to continue to deliver natural gas safely and reliably to customers.

Updated May 6, 2022:

Nicor Gas Project ( East of IHB to Kemman, between 31st and Oak)
No new update on this project. Gas service installs are going slow.

Nicor Gas Project ( West of IHB to La Grange Road, between Homestead and Garfield)
Nicor Gas’ contractor KS Energy will continue to install the new natural gas main in your neighborhood. The next areas of work will require the removal of some sidewalk squares and safely excavating around existing utilities in conflict areas. To safely excavate in these areas, this will require saw cutting of concrete and vacuum excavation equipment. Whenever possible, KS Energy will use underground drilling equipment to install the gas main to avoid large trenches and extensive landscape damage. The next areas KS Energy will be working on during the week of May 9th – May 14th is as follows:

N LaGrange Rd between W Oak Ave and 515 N LaGrange Rd
Garfield Ave between N LaGrange Rd and Meadowcrest Rd
Community Dr between Monroe and E Harding Ave
Harding Ave from the railroad tracks west to LaGrange Rd

Excavation holes will also be necessary for gas pipe connections in and around most intersections. These areas will require safety fencing/temporary plates until connections are made and holes can be safely backfilled. KS Energy will be backfilling most excavation holes whenever possible.
