UPDATE 6/18: The contractor will be putting the paving down on the bike path tomorrow, June 19th. The path will be closed from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is then anticipated to re-open permanently.
UPDATE 6/17: Work is anticipated to begin in the area of the Salt Creek Bridge on Thursday, June 18. The Village has been informed that due to the use of heavy equipment, the bike path will be closed on Thursday, June 18 from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The Village has been working cooperatively with the Village of Westchester and the Forest Preserve of Cook County (FPCC) to address the challenges with the bike path off of Brainard Avenue (west of the Salt Creek bridge) related to drainage following rainfall events. We wish to inform you that the Village of Westchester’s contractor will be performing work on the path and creating new drainage ditches to drain water to the creek, sometime in the near future. While this work has not yet been scheduled, it will require heavy equipment to perform the work and necessitate that the path from Brainard (and Jackson) to the FPCC path be closed for a short period of time until the work is completed. They are hopeful the work can be completed in no more than 3-4 consecutive days, conditions permitting. Barricades will be placed on both ends of the path indicating the closure. We appreciate your patience and understanding while this work is completed. As soon as more information is available regarding the date of the work and the duration of the closure, we will post to the Village’s website and provide notification through E-Briefs.
