Position Description: The Village of La Grange Park, Illinois (pop. 13,475) is seeking an experienced planning professional for the part-time position of Senior Planner/Project Coordinator in the Administration Department. This is a senior-level position responsible for complex planning work and coordinating public improvement projects in two Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Districts and four Business Development Districts.
The Senior Planner/Project Coordinator will assist in the development of plans and priorities for the business corridors, collaborate with Village departments and stakeholders to implement streetscape improvements and related projects, and monitor the overall progress of plan implementation. The position works with considerable independence and is expected to lead or support various phases of special projects, including initial planning and community engagement, project prioritization with Village Board direction, and budgeting and implementation activities related to intersection improvements, traffic-calming, and other safety intervention tactics along state roads, as well as the development of district branding and signage plans, and other streetscape improvements.
The successful candidate will be a proven self-starter with knowledge of planning and engineering, experience working with local agencies, consultants, and multiple stakeholders to implement plans, and excellent communication skills. The position reports to the Deputy Village Manager.
Hours of Work & Work Location: The position will work up to 28 hours per week, with flexible hours generally between 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. Reports regularly to La Grange Park Village Hall (447 N. Catherine, La Grange Park, Illinois), with some opportunity to work from home.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, engineering, public administration, or related field; Master’s degree preferred. Strong communication skills and the ability to balance a multi-project workload, work independently, and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines are essential to the position.
Pay Rate: The starting pay rate for this position is $45 per hour +/- depending on qualifications, with participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) pension plan provided as a benefit.
