[ARCHIVED] Nicor Gas Project Updates

Nicor Gas

Investing in Illinois, a Nicor Gas system improvement initiative is a multi-year initiative to modernize aging natural gas infrastructure and enhance the safety and reliability of the natural gas distribution system. The improvements being made to infrastructure through Investing in Illinois are designed to allow Nicor to continue to deliver natural gas safely and reliably to customers.

Updated March 28, 2022:

Nicor Gas Project (West of IHB to La Grange Road, between Homestead and Garfield): The Village recently approved an additional permit with Nicor Gas to continue its Invest in Illinois campaign to replace aging infrastructure. This includes installing new gas mains, service feeds, and gas meters. Nicor's contractor, K&S Energy, began televising sewer mains and laterals in the project area on Monday, March 21. This work is expected to take several weeks and will not have any impact on homes. While School District 102 is on spring break next week, Nicor Gas plans to install the new gas main on Homestead between Jackson and Harding. The new gas main will be under the sidewalk on the east side of the street. Nicor will also be preparing for upcoming work to take place on Community and Robinhood between Garfield and Harding. See Nicor project flyer here.

Nicor Gas Project (Monroe Avenue at Community Drive, Robinhood Lane, and Sherwood Road): Nicor completed the new gas main project on Monroe at Community and Robinhood and also installed the new gas services on Sherwood between Monroe and Harding. Nicor expects to disconnect the old gas main under the pavement at Sherwood and Monroe beginning Monday, March 21. This work is expected to take one week to complete and will not have any impact on gas service to homes.

Nicor Gas Project (IHB to Kemman Avenue, between 31st Street & Oak Avenue): All gas mains have been installed and are active. The next phase of the project is to get new services and meters to each home. As these services go in, Nicor will schedule appointments with residents to install new or refurbished gas meters and all necessary indoor and exterior piping and to relight all appliances within the home. Restorations are scheduled to begin in early April.
