Investing in Illinois, a Nicor Gas System Improvement Initiative is a multi-year initiative to modernize aging natural gas infrastructure and enhance the safety and reliability of the natural gas distribution system. The improvements being made to infrastructure through Investing in Illinois are designed to allow Nicor to continue to deliver natural gas safely and reliably to customers.
Updates: As of Friday, March 11, 2022:
NEW - Nicor Gas Project ( West of IHB to La Grange Road, between Homestead and Garfield):The Village recently approved an additional permit with Nicor Gas to continue its Invest in Illinois campaign to replace aging infrastructure. This includes installing new gas mains, service feeds, and gas meters. Nicor will distribute notices via mail to residents affected by this project. They plan to begin work the week of March 28th. Next week, Nicor will provide the Village with a workflow report outlining the progress for this upcoming work. Check back next week for another update on this upcoming project. (See attached flyer)
NICOR Gas Project (IHB to Kemman Avenue, between 31st Street & Oak Avenue): Nicor states that the progress in getting the new gas service tie-ins to all the homes in the project area, has slowed due to the winter season. To date, 124 service connections have been made compared to the total amount of 323.
NICOR Gas Project (On Monroe and Community, Robinhood and Sherwood.): Nicor plans to complete the disconnect of the old gas main near the intersection of Sherwood and Monroe on March 21st. The work will take about one week to complete.
Work Proposed the week of (12/13 – 12/17)
K/S Energy will have two crews install a new gas service to each home from the new gas main beginning on Beach South of 31st Street and Newberry from Harding working North.
NOTE - Nicor Gas and K/S Energy will not be working the weeks of December 18 – January 4th for annual training and maintenance.
