Investing in Illinois, a Nicor Gas System Improvement Initiative is a multi-year initiative to modernize aging natural gas infrastructure and enhance the safety and reliability of the natural gas distribution system. The improvements being made to infrastructure through Investing in Illinois are designed to allow Nicor to continue to deliver natural gas safely and reliably to customers. NICOR Gas Project (On Monroe and Community, Robinhood and Sherwood.)
Nicor completed the new gas main project at Monroe at Community and Robinhood. They also installed the new gas services on Sherwood between Monroe and Harding. The only work left for this project to be complete is disconnecting the old gas main under the pavement at Sherwood and Monroe. Both the Village and NICOR agree to wait on the final disconnect until spring due to not having a temporary patch in the roadway during the winter season. This disconnect will take place before the permeable intersection project begin.
NICOR Gas Project ( East of IHB to Kemman, between 31st and Oak
As of now, the gas mains have been installed and are active. The next phase of this project is to get new services and meters to each home. As these services go in, NICOR will seek resident appointments to install either new or refurbished gas meters and all necessary indoor and exterior piping and relight all appliances within the home. Restorations will begin once the weather breaks sometime in the spring.
Work Proposed the week of (12/13 – 12/17)
K/S Energy will have two crews install a new gas service to each home from the new gas main beginning on Beach South of 31st Street and Newberry from Harding working North.
NOTE - Nicor Gas and K/S Energy will not be working the weeks of December 18 – January 4th for annual training and maintenance.
